H2 separation membrane is our gas separation business origin. UBE started its basic research into materials for gas separation membranes in 1978, and we joined a Japanese national project aimed at developing a new chemosynthesis process and contributed our gas separation technology to it. After the project, UBE kept developing gas separation technology and installed the first H2 separation membranes for the oil refinery plant in Japan for hydrogen recovery from a process, in 1986.

UBE has developed and incorporated the latest fiber polymerization and spinning technology into its H2 separation membrane modules, which make your process more productive and profitable.

Oil refinery process, Natural gas treatment, Chemical process (Ammonia production, gasification process,), SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) production process, biodiesel production process, Syngas process. For H2, He, CO, CO2, CH4, recovery, purification, and composition adjustment and so on.

How it works

UBE H2 separation modules have a “Shell” feed structure for use at high pressure, the compressed gas flows to the outer fiber, and the highly permeated gas such as H2, He, and CO2 preferentially permiate into the hollow of the fiber and is discharged from the permeation port.
The UBE membrane has a different permeation ratio for each molecule depending on 1) molecule size and 2) solubility to the membrane material, the permeation orders for our membrane are shown in the table below. We use the gap of permeation ratio of each molecule for gas separation.
