Our Objectives

Traditional excellence for sustainable solution

Over 120 years ago, UBE’s founder, Sukesaku Watanabe created UBE in the spirit of “Coexistence and Mutual Prosperity”. We have always sought community well-being, as well as the welfare of the company and its workers, because we know we would not have been sustainable without this. For UBE, Sustainability is not a fashionable word, rather it is something it has always sustained and pursued with a variety of challenges over its long history, offering sustainable solutions using our knowledge and experience.

Materiality within the UBE Group

Expanding the chemical business, centered on active growth businesses*

The UBE Group will drive the expansion of active growth businesses and increase their weight in our business portfolio in an effort to build an operating structure that generates stable growth regardless of economic trends and improve profit margins. Active growth businesses encompass many operations that generate minimal GHG emissions, such as specialty chemicals. We look to lower emissions rates by lifting the contributions to sales of such businesses.

* Nylon, fine chemicals, high-performance coatings, synthetic rubber, polyimide, separation membranes, separators, magnesia and calcia, biomass fuel, and resource recycling.

Hiring and cultivating people who can drive growth and innovation

In fiscal 2018 and 2019, the UBE Group strengthened proactive and reactive governance by revamping our corporate philosophy and management principles, transitioning to a Company with Audit & Supervisory Committee, and reorganizing into a three-company operating structure.
