Structural Parts for Automotive Applications: Material Performance Where Safety and Durability Matter

Structural automotive components are expected to deliver reliable mechanical performance while contributing to vehicle lightweighting and long-term durability. As vehicle architectures continue to evolve, materials used in battery systems, engine components, and underbody parts must meet increasingly demanding mechanical, thermal, and safety demands.

Polyamide compounds play an important role in these applications, combining mechanical strength with the flexibility required to support complex component designs.

For battery components, electrical insulation and fire performance are key considerations. UBE offers PA6 compounds developed to provide superior insulation, enhanced crash safety, outstanding chemical resistance, and optimized lightweight design. The DINALON B1X25 G30V0 grade achieves UL94 V0 classification at both 1.6 mm and 3 mm, together with GWFI 960°C and GWIT 750°C, supporting demanding battery system requirements.

Engine structural components also require materials capable of maintaining performance under mechanical and thermal loads. Reinforced PA6 grades such as UBE NYLON® 1015GNKF combine excellent mechanical and thermal properties with lightweight advantages. In addition, vibration weldability and broad design flexibility allow engineers to develop complex intake manifold geometries.

Circularity is becoming an increasingly important factor in structural automotive design. For underbody components, recycled PA6 compounds provide a solution that combines mechanical and thermal performance. These materials are developed to maintain the required mechanical and thermal properties while incorporating recycled content.
