DAXSOL® Glycerol Carbonate (GC) is an innovative and efficient alternative to replace Methyl Ethyl Ketoxime (MEKO) in blocking isocyanates system for adhesive and coating applications.
Blocking agents are used to enhance the chemical stability and reduce the moisture sensitivity of isocyanates. Through a different blocking & unblocking mechanism, GC is proposed as a superior alternative due to its hydroxyl group, which reacts with isocyanates to form a stable matrix without the need for high-temperature unblocking. This feature is crucial as it allows glycerol carbonate to fully integrate into the polymer matrix, improving the properties of the final system.
The curing temperature for isocyanates blocked with GC is below 100°C, resulting in a more efficient process due to significant energy savings, and greater safety jointly with its non-flammability.
In a nutshell, the main characteristics of GC are:
- Bio-based and biodegradable: GC is an eco-friendly and biodegradable alternative, which contains 76% USDA-certified biobased content, making it a sustainable alternative in isocyanates blocking system
- Low toxicity
- High flash point: for safer process
- Non-flammable
