ETERNATHANE® prepolymers: High performance for long-lasting polyurethanes

ETERNATHANE® is UBE’s advanced line of polycarbonate-based, isocyanate-terminated urethane prepolymers designed to deliver exceptional mechanical and chemical durability in polyurethane (PU) systems exposed to demanding environments. Engineered for performance and reliability, the ETERNATHANE® series combines versatility, strength, and longevity, helping manufacturers create PU products that maintain their original properties over time.

These prepolymers can be supplied in a wide range of free NCO contents, allowing users to tailor the formulation to their specific requirements. They can be processed through both machine and hand-batching methods, providing flexibility across applications. When combined with UBE’s ETERNACURE curatives, reactivity and performance can be customized to meet even the most demanding production needs.

Polyurethanes based on ETERNATHANE® offer a unique balance of properties:

  • Outstanding heat, hydrolytic, and oxidation resistance.
  • Excellent abrasion, tear, and oil resistance.
  • Long-lasting UV stability and transparency.
  • Reliable performance in harsh industrial and outdoor conditions.

These characteristics make ETERNATHANE® ideal for a wide variety of end uses — including rollers and roll coverings, oil and mining components, seals, gaskets, wheels, cast elastomers, and transparent PU systems where clarity and durability are key.

Performance testing demonstrates that ETERNATHANE® – based PUs maintain tensile strength significantly better than polycaprolactone- or PTMEG-based systems after long exposure to heat (120 °C), chemicals, water, and weathering. This superior stability translates into reduced maintenance and a longer product lifespan.

The technical data sheet also details recommended processing conditions for optimal results, ensuring consistent mixing, curing, and handling performance, whether in small-scale or industrial production.

Download the full technical document to explore ETERNATHANE® prepolymer grades, processing parameters, and property data, and learn how UBE’s expertise in polycarbonate-based chemistry can help you achieve next-level performance in your polyurethane applications.
